TechJobsHawaii.org, under the banner of HTDC, organized the 10th annual Holiday Science & Tech Fair on Tuesday, December 29, 2009. With over 100 attendees and 23 companies, Hawaii’s cutting edge tech companies had an opportunity to showcase their innovations and conduct face-to-face interviews with local talent.
In an effort to reduce Hawaii’s brain drain, this event which is strategically scheduled at the end of December, targeted kamaaina and students returning home for the holidays with opportunities in the science and tech field. Attendees such as Ruben Pena flew in for the event from California. Ruben had an interview at the fair and said it was a great event. He returned home that evening with many follow up leads.
Companies participating this year included, Oceanit, Lockheed Martin Hawaii, BAE Systems, Hoku Scientific, Sopogy, Decision Research, Referentia, NovaSol, Hawaiian Telcom, Navatek, Comspec Engineering, as well as demonstrations by the McKinley Robotics team and Kapiolani Community College’s New Media Arts curriculum.
The Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program participated in search of qualified students for their paid internship program. This program is a partnership between the University of Hawaii and Lockheed Martin and the Department of Defense. Detlev Even, Vice President of NovaSol came away with resumes he felt will be great additions to his company.
